The Stone Throne is the south-eastern nation, occupying the lands of the former Fanged Kingdom. The people are proud and fierce, with strong social hierarchies. Here are some of the key figures in the government of that land.
Note: Alignments mentioned here are aids to properly portraying the character's motivations. They are being used in the loosest way possible and are not a binding constraint on actions.
Sal'zar, the Queen's Fang
After the Ascension of the Serpent Queen in early 205 AC, the former lord of the Northern District, Isal Prei Sal'zar, has assumed the role of Queen's Fang (king in all but name). He rules from beside the Stone Throne and, along with his wife, the High Priestess Laila'ssa, has reduced the bureaucracy to a minimum. Sal'zar's rule is harsh but fair. Members of the aristocratic and priestly castes pay for their expanded privileges with stricter rules of conduct and greater penalties for failure. Sal'zar is loved by the common people, especially in the Northern District. Sal'zar is mostly celibate, despite his marriage to Lalia’ssa and their three children.
He wears nothing but white, the color of shed snake-skin, the color of mourning. The rumor is that he is in perpetual mourning for his Queen, whom he loved more personally than religiously. He openly wears a suit of plate under his white robes, claiming that he’s grown accustomed to the feel.
Sal’zar is a middle-aged (40 years old) human. His skin is bronzed but his hair is prematurely silver; his eyes are violet. In game terms, he’s a Champion (VGtM) who favors the glaive.
Personality: My favor, once lost, is lost forever.
Ideal: Fairness. No one should get preferential treatment before the law, and no one is above the law
Bond: I am devoted to my Queen and will rule Her land as she would have wished.
Flaw: I obey the law, even if the law causes misery
Lalia'ssa, the Queen's Tongue
Sal'zar's wife is the High Priestess of the Queen Ascendant. She was a former handmaiden to the Queen and is devoted to carrying out her vision for her people. She has spent the last five years reforming the religious life of the nation--converting the worship from blood sacrifice and perversions to a more symbolic and heart-felt worship of the Queen and the other gods of the Congregation.
Sal'zar and Lalia'ssa have a good working relationship and three children, but it is a well known fact that their marriage is one of convenience and politics, not love. Lalia'ssa has several open lovers; Sal’zar doesn’t care.
Lalia is younger than her husband at about 30 years old and looks significantly younger due to her higher quanta of elven blood. She is nearly full elven, and has undergone several procedures to strengthen her resemblance to the Queen Ascendant. She is pale-skinned and golden-haired, showing virtually none of the iridescence common among the fang-kin.
Mechanically she is a Priest (MM), although she almost never wears armor (or very much else) and does not wield weapons.
Personality: I can find common ground between the fiercest enemies, empathizing with them and always working toward peace.
Ideal: We must help bring about the changes the gods are constantly working in the world.
Bond: Everything I do is for the common people.
Flaw: I like keeping secrets and won't share them with anyone.
Isal Hvang Ssak'ka rules from the oldest of the three non-capital cities, Asai'Ka in the Central District of the Stone Throne. He is known to be extremely unpredictable and quite possibly insane. He spends almost all his time in his tower laboratory. Those who displease him often disappear--rumor has it that they are taken to the tower and experimented on. He is a widower with two young children (other than those that are grown and gone). Since the death of his wife, Lady Kinlanna in the liberation of the Stone Throne from demonic worship, he has settled down and is making more attempts to govern his people sensibly. His behavior is still erratic and his temper is feared throughout the land.
He is an ancient half-elf, the oldest mortal being in the Stone Throne. As of 210 AC, he has been the ruler of this district since the Stone Throne came into being 130 years ago. The source of his long life is unknown, although he is known to be an alchemist of the highest caliber.
Physically he is wrinkled, with white hair and stooped posture. This should not be taken as a sign of weakness. Mechanically he is a Noble (MM) but carries many potions and quasi-magical devices.
Personality: I am always calm, no matter what the situation. I never raise my voice or let my emotions control me.
Ideal: The path to power and self-improvement is through knowledge. And chemistry.
Bond: I will do anything to protect my family, and my definition of family is quite broad.
Flaw: There is no kill like overkill. Once you cross me I will obliterate you.
Lai Chea General-a
A hard, proud half-elf of about 45 years, she served under Fang Sal'zar from early in the Northern District's history. She cares a lot for order and is somewhat of a conservative socially. While conservative she’s also pragmatic--the means are less important than the ends for her. She also has a reputation for being vindictive toward those who wrong her or who get on her bad side.
Under her leadership the Northern District has grown more solid and is the most conservative of the three Districts. She grudgingly accepts adventurers but prefers that their activities stay under the direction of the military.
Chea is a half-elf; she’s about 45 years old. Her black hair and tan skin have the iridescence of the fang-kin and are rough from hard physical labor. Her hair is cut short and pulled back in a knot. She pays almost no attention to her appearance. Mechanically she is a Knight (MM), fighting with a slightly curved longsword and shield.
Personality: If you do me an injury, I will crush you, ruin your name, and salt your fields.
Ideal: Responsibility. It is my duty to respect the authority of those above me, just as those below me must respect mine.
Bond: The Northern District was entrusted to me by someone I respect, and I will keep that trust.
Flaw: I'd rather eat my armor than admit when I'm wrong.
Alignment: LE (near the LN border).
